New Neuphonix Review From Dan Tan
26 Jun 2007
For months, I have been researching and auditioning numerous loudspeakers. When I purchased an Epicentrix centre channel loudspeaker, the obvious companion was a pair of Neuphonix.
Experiencing how brilliant the Epicentrix is, I knew I would be impressed with the Neuphonix. I wasn't disappointed, as a brief audition with a pair of Neuphonix and Epicentrix just blew me away. The Neuphonix and Epicentrix paired together form a stunning front soundstage.
Krix's vast experience with movie reproduction and cinema fitouts is very apparent. Dialogue, which often lets lesser speakers down, is clear and distortion free. Bass is mind blowing. With four dedicated bass drivers in a true three way configuration, a sub woofer is really only a surplus, as the Neuphonix pair is able to move a large volume of air. It is not only how much bass the Neuphonix are able to produce, I am more impressed with the bass control of the Neuphonix. The bass that the Neuphonix produces is able to stop on a dime.
The Neuphonix's imaging is breathtaking. With my pair of Neuphonix slightly toed-in and about three metres apart, playing via 'Pure Direct' on my Denon AVR2807 (the receiver on 'Pure Direct' plays only the front left and right loudspeakers and the subwoofer, and switches off all circuitry not required. At times, I muted my subwoofer to enjoy the immense bass the Neuphonix conjured), the Neuphonix pair placed music perfectly to my ears. It felt as though the loudspeakers were inbetween my two ears, right in front of my nose.
I never thought I would be impressed by only one pair of loudspeakers being responsible for an action-packed movie, but I played Speed on DVD via only my pair of Neuphonix and subwoofer (I muted my subwoofer at times) and the result was incredible. Explosions were heard loud and clear and the separation was incredible. I could clearly hear different bits fall on the ground after the explosions.
Moving on to a music concert DVD, Dido at Brixley Hall in London and playing it on 'Pure Direct' as well, the result was astonishing.
Five stars for the Krix Neuphonix.
