New Seismix 3 mk3 Review From James
01 Jun 2007
I ordered this product just when stock of the Seismix 3 Mk2 ran out. I'm glad, because from what I can work out, the Mk3's amplifier has some significant improvements.
The first important feature is 'Earth Lift'. If this subwoofer didn't have this feature, I would have spent hours trying to rectify a loud, low pitched hum. Instead, all I had to do was press a button. Beautiful. On top of this there are a variety of protection circuits that impress me as I do like to listen to music a little on the high side at times.
The Seismix 3 Mk3 at the time was the smallest subwoofer in the range. I was wondering if it may not be a little underpowered and was contemplating ordering the Seismix 5. I'm glad I did't because the Mk3 is certainly as powerful as I am ever going to need, if I am to stay friendly with neighbours within about a three house block radius.
The sound? Well I'm no expert, but I can tell you I upgraded from a more 'mass market' brand of subwoofer, the same size, which would have cost about the same as a Seismix 3 Mk3 in vinyl finish. Compared with the brand 'X' sub, the Krix's bass is less overpowering and lets you enjoy the rest of the audio spectrum. It's smoother and less 'boxy'. I don't really know how to describe it, I think you should go to a shop and listen to one - you'll be impressed. It enhances music and movies equally well.
Compared to the brand 'X' Malaysian built sub, this Hackham beauty looks a lot prettier and is better constructed. It has thicker MDF walls, as opposed to thinnner, chipboard ones and the driver appears much tougher (and indeed does a better job).
The other speakers in my home theatre system are Krix KDX's. This product is a good match for them.
